Water Leak Sensor Intergration Hardware

A list of supported devices can be found in the project README.md. Once the application is running, it can publish the decoded data to an MQTT server where we can ingest it into Home Assistant. A cheap SDR can listen to oodles of devices on common RF bands. For example, devices that operate on 433 MHz can include TPMS sensors, weather sensors, or even utility meters. Thankfully, there are some terrific communities who have figured out how to decode many of the popular device signals for the average user to track. I don’t recommend this route if you have more than 2 sensors, as the entity names will probably get cut off when viewing on mobile devices, but for 1-3 sensors, it works great.

In fact, they encourage you to buy their Wi-Fi gateway hub to receive alerts. Luckily, none of the functionality requires the Wi-Fi Gateway. This water leak detector works with lots of smart-home systems. Because it doesn't include a shutoff valve, the Phyn can be easily installed by a homeowner, under any sink. The one caveat is that you'll also need a power source nearby. But, the Phyn could save you money over the long haul, even if you don't have a major catastrophe.

That's why, in addition to water leaks, this Resideo sensor can also detect temperature changes and humidity, and send you an alert when things get too cold. The Lyric sensor runs on two AA batteries, which are rated to last up to three years. It includes a 4-foot cable, the entire length of which can detect leaks.

For the AcuRite sensors, they send signals and highly regular intervals.

Here are some helpful Home Assistant automations and blueprints I use to get started. The sensor I chose for water-leak detection is an interesting one. The Govee H5054 water-leak detector does not advertise itself is a 433 MHz device.

Since I’m using the rtl_433 project to push device states over MQTT, I can choose to include a timestamp with the event. The blueprint loops through all temperature and battery devices and checks if their time attribute is within a specific timeframe. With the configuration below Home Assistant will register the sensor as wet when moisture is detected.

It also tells you what's using water, and it runs daily tests to determine if there's a water leak. The D-Link Wi-Fi Water Leak Sensor and Alarm Starter Kit works a little differently than other water leak detectors. A Master Sensor, which needs to be plugged into a wall, acts as a hub between wireless remote sensor pods and your home Wi-Fi network. (You can connect up to 16 pods.) Each pod costs $24 each, and is powered by two AAA batteries which the company says will last up to five years before needing to be replaced. Chances are that 99.99% of the time you don’t need to have a static Lovelace card that shows whether your water sensors are wet or dry.

Finding home theater & automation companies in my area is easy on Houzz. However, when the sensor goes back to dry, the valve opens back up. Great, unless the first thing I do to deal with a leak is pick up the sensor. Just a simple automation to alert the user if the freezer temperature is too high.

Beginner’s Guide to WLED: Hardware Requirements & Setup

As they often are running when you are not at home, you want to get alerted in case of a water leak. Overall, this was one of the easiest items to add to Home Assistant. The wet/dry detection works instantly, the temperature is accurate, and I’ve created some really cool automations around it. Trying to get all your smart home devices into home dashboard might be very difficult, but with home assistant and these 4 space saving tips you will be able to optimise... To pair it you need to press firmly for at least 5 seconds. This wasn’t clear to me there is not click or tactile feedback to know for sure that you are doing the right thing.

Stick this ‘probe’ into the soil to measure its moisture, or lay it where water might appear. I then successfully added the Aqara Water Leak Detector to my homeassistant. I used the Android Aqara app to initially add the Aqara Water Leak Detector. Do I need to buy the Aqara hub or can I get away with using a Conbee II USB stick? Looks like they are cheap and you can get 5 of them plus the hub for $70.

Grab your SmartThings Water Sensor and flip the sensor over. A detector with a built-in alarm will sound a siren, so that you can hear where the leak is coming from, without needing your smartphone. The Phyn Plus can be installed indoors or outdoors, and works with Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT. Unlike the Flo by Moen, there are no additional subscription fees.

This device senses leaks, temperature, and humidity, and can emit an 85-decibel alarm when it detects water. It also connects to the Flo by Moen app, where you can link it with Alexa, Google Assistant, and other smart home systems. I recently (last year?) got a few of the Ecolink Z-Wave leak/freeze sensors and so far, they’ve worked well. Supposedly, they are supposed to go 5 years on a single battery . I also have 5 of the SmartThings water leak sensors, but those are discontinued and hard to find lately. Ideally, you need to create an automation for this as well.

For those whom the Phyn Plus Smart Water Assistant + Shutoff valve is too expensive, the Phyn Smart Water Assistant could be the answer. This device, which costs less than half the price, does everything the Phyn Plus does, except for having an automatic shutoff valve. This automation will send me a notification if there is a leak on my kitchen floor close to the washing machine. In my tests the performance was outstanding, it picked up the water leak as soon as I put it in shallow water in a bowl, then once it was lifted up after 10 seconds it went back to dry . You can watch the video above to see it in more action. This sensor is to be used inside only and it has a IP67 water and dust proof, the device is powered by a CR2032 lithium metal battery button cell.

You just need to need to see WHEN they detect water, right? You can definitely re-use this guide as inspiration for battery level cards as well, if you’d like. For reference, I am using a SmartThings Leak Sensor and an Aqara water leak sensor. The water sensor exposes the entity binary_sensor.water_sensor_7_pro_water_alarm_water_leak_detected that becomes on if a water leak is detected by the sensor's probe. Because of climate change, some areas of the country are experiencing water shortages, and are seeing their water rates go up as well. This device comes with the main unit as well as a four-foot cable, so you can mount it on the wall, and not worry about it getting washed away if you get a flood. And, when you want to step up to a system that can also shut off your water, you can link it to the Flo by Moen shutoff valve.
